  • Notes 
    • John served with Company D, 2nd Regiment, Texas Cavalry, 2 Texas Mtd. Rifles, the Confederate States of America, during the Civil War, was captured and paroled. He was with Charles Richard Galloway (his double first cousin) at the time of his death.

      Private J.W. Galloway was enlisted into Captain George L. Patrick's Company, 2nd Regiment Texas Mounted Rifles, in San Antonio, Texas, on July 1, 1962. This company was known at various times as Capt. Walker's Company, Capt. Patrick's Company, Company G, and Company D, 2nd Regiment Texas Cavalry. The 2nd Regiment Texas Cavalry was organized May 23, 1861, of companies which had previously been in State service.

      John W. was paroled as a prisoner of war by Captain William Davis of the 18th New York Cavalry. The release was ordered by Major General Merritt.

      In the 1870 census of Hays County, Texas pg. 217 John is a Farmer living close to his brother Francis' widow Miranda. He has married Clarinda Galloway, his first cousin Charles Richard Galloway's widow, in 1866. (Charles and John both met Clarinda at a public water well, but Charles was her first choice.) Clarinda has three children from her previous marriage to Charles: William J. 13 yrs. old, Anderson 12 yrs. old and Sameul 10 yrs. old. They birth by their marriage Mary S. and Malica F. by the time of the census.

      Sometime between 1872 and 1876, he moved back to Calloway County, Kentucky, the place of his birth. He and his wife Clarinda are both buried in Sinking Springs Cemetery, Calloway County, Kentucky.
